Here chicky chicky...

No sitting around today.

The chicks will be arriving this afternoon, the new dining set will be arriving this afternoon, and there's a bridal shower to attend tonight for my sister in law.

I'm excited to post pics of the baby chicks...I just REALLY hope we know what we're doing. The Hubs figures that if the Amish can do it with no electricity, then we shouldn't have a problem. The heat lamp is postitioned nicely over the middle of the wood box, and we're placing feed on papers for now, as the chicks are too tiny to eat from feeders yet. Hopefully it doesn't get too hot or too cold...

Here's hoping I don't have a bunch of McNuggets by morn.

If you have any wisdom on raising chicks, PLEASE let me know :)

I have no pearls of wisdom for you, but I look forward to seeing the pictures of your latest additions- baby chicks are so sweet :)

Have a wonderful day, and enjoy the arrival of the new babies, new dining set, and have fun at your shower :)

Definitely no wisdom here, but my hubby wants chickens like nobody's business!!! What do you guys plan to do with them? My dh found an ad for 100 chicks for $19.95, and if we had a place for them, he said we'd have all the eggs we wanted (after they'd grown a bit) and then we could have fresh chicken twice a week for a year. But I think our kids would name the chicks and he would be mud! for killing them.

I can't wait to see pics of the cute lil' chicks! You are so lucky to live on a farm - I love to see farm pics.

Ha, ha!!! McNuggets!!! I've been wanting to get some chicks so that we can have eggs, but I haven't gotten any support from my husband yet. We saw some chicks at the farm supply store the other day. My daughter was beside herself with joy, and my son was beside himself with fear. I'm looking forward to hearing your chicken adventures!

Ahhh, chickens! We raised them when I was little as part of my parent's "get back to the land" effort. Just be sure to be careful who you show how to spread the feed. You can wind up with a 3 year old who spreads any available material all over the house as she "feeds" the chickens in the house. It took us two years to get the birdseed out of the blue carpet in the playroom. Then there was the time my brother's favorite rooster named Checkers pecked at me when I was 6 and we had him for dinner that night. My brother was mad at me for about 6 weeks after that. My mom even made little curtains for the chicken house for the laying hens. I thought that was normal...so have an adventure sister!
