When to slow down on the Bloggity Goodness?

I'm torn.

I feel like my blogging/facebook/MSN computer habits are overwhelming me, and that's just not good. I feel like there are certain things I don't get to in a day because I just HAVE to find out whats going on in the blogosphere, and that's just not good. Sometimes I can waste an entire hour in a day reading blogs, chatting with friends, and concocting blog posts, and that's just not good.

I've also noticed my children's TV habits are getting slightly out of hand. I know Dora is quite educational, and I have to give her props for teaching my child many a Spanish word, but alot of the other stuff is just plain ol' time wasting c-r-a-p.

So...what to do???

I approached The Hubs about putting the TV away for the summer, but he's worried about missing America's Funniest Home Videos and Cops. And sometimes Cops Funniest videos. Or Americas Funniest Cops. I on the other hand would be willing to sacrifice my American Idol for some serious book reading. I LOVE to read. And, I REALLY need to delve into the scripture more often, I figure one less distraction could only promote that.

And as for blogging..... I love this blog for the joy it will bring my children one day in reading it, and I love the comments (LOVE the comments) but I think I need to set goals...or writing times...or a blogger blogging weblog times. Perhaps once or twice a week...rather than incessantly checking hourly to see who has written what and who's done what, and who's eating what, and who's cleaning what. And instead of writing, doing, eating and cleaning my own what's...I'd rather be seeing yours.

I think I have a problem. I like to live vicariously through y'all. I feel like I'm reading your diary and know you from way back when.

So as I process these thoughts, tell me how you handle your blogging times...do you post and read when inspired, or are you like me, living through bloglines and the potential that Dee Dee has posted something and you must read, 'cause you desperately need a laugh?

I have the same problem. I spend a lot of time in the blog world. I saw this link on JennaG's site and thought it might help you. You may have already seen it.

Well, that's just plain weird. I sit around wondering what you're going to post next. :)

Seriously, I know what you're saying. I'm at the point where I need to set strict limits on my blogging time. It can take over your life! So we're blogging or reading someone else's blog, and missing our own life.

My goal is to limit my blogging to after the kids are down for the count, but get into bed to read like a real book by 9 or 9:30. Of course, that means I'll have to put the kids down by 5:30. :)

I don't know. But I'm with you on this one.

Here's a suggestion...Set aside naptime/rest-time for blogging, or before the kids wake up in the morning...That way you don't interfere so much with their schedules, and you are able to do other things that you used to love (as well as things you don't love to do, but have to do because they are necessities) :) It helps me a little, and then I don't feel so bad about spending time blogging/reading blogs. I will admit though, it is addicting :)

There just aren't enough hours in the day!!! I have the same problem. I am constantly reading all these different blogs of people who I have never even met before. You get to know them, their joys and trials, and you have to find out what happens next! If nothing else, I try to get up early enough to have time with the Lord. There is nothing more important than that. Love your blog.

Same problems here. I've decided that I will NOT get on and blog until I've had my time with the Lord, and if that takes all day, then it does. And, I set limits. I try to write my post first, then surf on my must-reads, comment, and get off! (About 2 hrs if I have it) If I have time later in the day, after I've visited with my family, I'll surf some more. Moderation is the key. And if we're too busy living life for me to post, good for us. Blogging is extra.

I tend to agree with Coach J. I don't get on until the kids are napping or in bed for the night. And then I only get on after other things are accomplished. I have a friend who sets a timer when she gets on to blog. When times up...it's up! Whatever you do, don't stop blogging! I have to read your posts for survival! LOL! I have been thinking this weekend that what I will do is at naptime I will do my Bible studying and then after the kids are in bed, if I am not too tired I will do my blogging. I think it will work for me that way. I know I am no help!

This is the hardest thing. I use the timer and don't get on until I have had my quiet time, exercised, and showered. That is very hard sometimes. I limit myself to two hours a day--unless for some reason I have extra time. I also try not to blog when my hubby is home in the evening.

Thanks Ladies...all good advice.

I'll think I'll be trying the blog whilst they slumber technique..be it afternoon or evening. Either or. Then shutting off the 'puter. It's just too tempting to check while it's on!

Hope you're all having a wonderful day :)

I'm having the same problem here. A couple of weeks ago I just had a shoddy work week and I was so rushed and stressed all because I'm always peeking into the blogging world - if only you weren't so darn interesting...lol! Or maybe that my life is just too gosh darn boring.

Anwyay I'm trying to figure out a way to balance it and so far it's not too bad. My biggest problem was my new addiction of Thursday Thirteen as that is my busiest work week with a staff meeting in the morning and the bulletin to be copied that afternoon - it didn't leave me a lot of room.

So now, I am doing up my TT 13 when I have free time at home in the evenings and then I'll post it on Thursdays. Hopefully this helps and I may have to stick to only the TT 13 and WW because it will just get carried away if I get myself involved with any other weekly meme.
